The firefighters pulled a cabinet off the wall, ripped the range hood down, punched a hole in the wall, and took a door off a cabinet. Fortunately, when it was all over, the booze was safe so I had something to wash down the pain killers with!

Here's a better look at the range. Nothing that some Soft Scrub couldn't fix. The range hood, however, was a total loss. I would have been really mad if my stand mixer had been damaged, though! Date: 05/19/2007

This is the hole that they put in the wall. When I called 911, I told them that the fire was out, and I just wanted someone to come out to make sure. Well, they showed up with about 3 or 4 trucks -- including the really big one that they need two people

Well, they showed up with about 3 or 4 trucks -- including the really big one that they need two people to drive! I think they just felt that if they didn't use their axe on something, they weren't doing their job. They said it was to check for fire in the wall.

Here you can see more of the damage. The floor got replaced, all the cabinets were pulled out and replaced, the range hood was replaced, the ceiling was repainted, the wall was patched and painted over, and new carpet was installed in the living room and

"Living room and hallway?", you ask? See, when I came into the kitchen and noticed the fire, I realized that I had forgotten to move my fire extinguisher when I moved in. So I did the next best thing: I picked the pot off the stove with the burning liquid, and ran out the front door with it. Problem was, I forgot that there was a glass storm door between me and the front yard. So, I smacked into it at a full run, sending flaming oil everywhere -- including onto my hand, where I suffered second-degree burns and long-term nerve damage. Whoops!

Naturally, I couldn't be satisfied with destroying the kitchen and the carpet! I managed to splatter flaming oil all over my couch, too. The sad part is, I've moved it twice since and am still using it. Amazing what problems a strategially-placed afgan

UPDATE: As of about 2005 or 2004, the couch was replaced and given to my brother. Apparently his dog likes eggrolls too since he (the dog) ate it (the couch).
