The infamous kitchen fire

In feb. of 2001, I had a little bit of an accident. Basically, I decided that I wanted to have some eggrolls so I set a pot of oil on the stove to heat up. I decided to wander back to my computer for a second to check out a game I was playing and sort of got distracted.

I apologize for the awful quality of these shots, but they were all taken on a disposable drugstore camera (like actual film) and then scanned in a while ago.

The firefighters pulled a cabinet off the wall, ripped the range hood down, punched a hole in the wall, and took a door off a cabinet. Fortunately, when it was all over, the booze was safe so I had something to wash down the pain killers with!

Here's the front door. The carpet and wall are burned up a bit. Don't run with scissors OR flaming pots of oil. You could put your eye out.

A better view of the damage to the wall. Not much, as you can see, but it required re-painting the whole room, and the hallway that attached to it.

Naturally, I couldn't be satisfied with destroying the kitchen and the carpet! I managed to splatter flaming oil all over my couch, too. The sad part is, I've moved it twice since and am still using it. Amazing what problems a strategially-placed afgan
