| 19MAR2004 | Nothing. |
| 20MAR2004 | Went to town with a wire brush,
sandpaper, and wire wheels on my drill. I'm trying to clean up the
corrosion on the rear axle. This is very slow going. |
| 21MAR2004 | Still going... Keep
running the drill out of juice. |
| 22MAR2004 | Still still going |
| 23MAR2004 | Stopped at Advance Auto and got
Right Stuff, Naval Jelly, Zinc primer, and semi-gloss anti-rust
paint. The naval jelly doesn't seem to do a thing. The Right
Stuff is supposed to bond to the rust, de-oxidize it, and provide a
tacky surface to be primed. It seems to be working relatively
well. I'm going to use the wire bursh & wheels to get the axle
cleaned up and de-greased, then I'll put the Right Stuff down, then
primer and paint. Started taking the calipers apart. Got the pistons out and found a muddly-looking mess inside. Not sure how to proceed from here... The bushings for the watts link arrived today. I thought I would have to have the shop at KOI install these, but I was able to press them in, by hand, with no problems. They're a two-part bushing, so it was pretty easy. I primered and painted the one watts link arm that I didn't have a chance to get to the other day. Looks sharp. |
| 24MAR2004 | Removed the boots from the back
of the calipers. Right side was full of a muddly-looking sludge,
left side had good, clean grease. Looks like the seal between the
piston and the e-brake stuff is shot, which would explain the brake
problems. Put everything in the parts cleaner so I can get a
better look at things. I see the FSM talking about the "conical
spring" but I have no idea what they're talking about. |
| 25MAR2004 | Expiremented with various
methods of trying to remove the conical spring. Nothing but
frustration. |
